I am asked quite often for a blend similar to a popular MLM brand. Four Thieves Oil is a well known recipe that I use at home. According to legend, this blend originated in the 15th century. It was created by a group of four thieves and grave robbers to protect themselves from contracting the plague while robbing the bodies of the ill and deceased. Now, I don’t know if this is true or not, but I can tell you with certainty that this stuff works! As we move into the colder months, this is a great blend to maintain health and ward off common winter ailments. I also use this blend in my all natural cleaning products.
Recipe:
In a 10 ml bottle (larger than needed but number of drops exceeds 5 ml bottle), add
35 Drops Clove Bud Essential Oil
30 Drops Lemon Essential Oil
15 Drops Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
13 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
7 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Mix all ingredients together by rolling bottle between hands.
This blend is very strong and must be diluted. When diluting, use a 1 – 2 % dilution rate (5 – 10 drops per 1 oz of carrier oil).
Uses:
Place 3 – 4 drops into a diffuser;
Mix with carrier oil (Jojoba or olive oil) and use as a massage oil for weary muscles. Can also dab on skin throughout the day for general health support;
Place 1 – 2 drops in a bowl of hot steam and inhale the vapors under a towel;
Make an all purpose spray for cleaning. Fill a spray bottle with water and add essential oil blend at a 1 – 2% dilution rate. Shake before using;
Mix a few drops in a 30 ml container with aloe vera gel for a convenient hand sanitizer.
You can adjust the recipe to your particular needs or scent preferences by swapping oils and using Tea Tree, Ravintsara, Lavender, Juniper Berry, Hyssop, Bay Laurel (my favorite), Oregano, Thyme and Scotch Pine.
